Web Hosting now, ask me how?

Thursday, October 2nd, 2008

Although, there are thousands of web hosting services on the internet that will provide virtual space for your website, for free or for some measly cost price, you need to comprehend the stringent market competition and your own personal requirements for selecting an optimal web host for your company or web site.

The web hosting market is full of promises that are eventually not kept after the consumer embraces one for his or her website. Fraud rent activities and babbling have become a part and parcel of the e-business and one requires careful analysis and evaluation before treading on the unknown itinerary contrived on the cyber world. Hence, there are some useful tips on how to get a good web hosting on the World Wide Web which are cited below for your consideration,

1) Starting with the most common propaganda which is 99% to 99.99% uptime guarantee primarily procured by most of the web hosting company. This much a required feature and is deeply appreciated by both commercial and non commercial website, both are in desperate need of it. Make sure they have a strong backup facility, a UPS, a diesel generator and a stable topography where electricity is in abundance. Starting off with a web hosting who promulgates 99% up time is a stepping stone and demonstrates that at least the company is aware of the basic requirement of the consumers.

2) Downtime, well most of us are virtually confused with the concept and conception of downtime and uptime. The down time is the time taken by the web hosting company to go up again, if unfortunately they go down due to some reason or the other. This is even more crucial than the uptime, as servers are bound to crash at some point or the other, reasons are ambiguous, but the core issue is how quick is your web host in responding to it.

3) Technical support or online help is equally essential for you and your web site, remember you hired a web hosting service not just for economizing your pockets, but because you never wished to enter the jargons of technical know how. Look for a web hosting company which offers you 24×7x365 day help support, ask on blogs and forums, someone is out there who is willing to tell the true chronicles of the web host in question.
4) Do not be fooled by testimonials of the site, read my lips, they can be fake and an ardent imagination of a content writer to lure you into poignancy of your life.

5) Control panel is extremely necessary; ask about it, this is one tool that will let your monitor all the developments and crucial aspects of your website.

6) Bandwidth is significant as per the requirements. You need an excellent bandwidth for your commercial web site, but for your personal website attracting less traffic you can literally work well with a lower one, make sure that the web hosting service provider can update bandwidth at later stages when your website is faced with heavy traffic in future.

7) Look for additional offers that the web hosting provider offers you, a free antivirus, e-mail responder site builder are some of the features which will look great, but at the same time be very certain of the software offered. In simple words are they compatible with your web site.

8) There are package offered for you on the web hosting web site, which can range from $5 to $12 per month generally. Select the one which is most opulent for your website and essentials.

9) Platform offered is indeed extremely crucial for your selection of an optimal web hosting service. While most of the web hosting service is well adept with Linux version, there are some who differ on providing Window based platform. It is best to select the web host, which offers both for your web site.

What you need to start the internet business?

Making money online is a step by step process. You need the right tools and mindset to achieve success. There are so many tools you can use, but we will restrict on the basic must needed ones here. As you might be a newbie, I do not want you to have surprises.

There are free sites available like blogger, wordpress etc. I don’t suggest you to take the free route first. There are two reasons for this. one - Free is free, will it be free for ever nobody knows. Second - If you use a free site it does not tend to be professional and your expansion plans will hurt you. Having your domain does not cost you hundreds of dollars.

I will tell where to take the domains for the cheaper prices and hostings. When it comes to your domain and hosting you should have complete control. If it develop significantly you have control over it and expansion is at your hands.

So you need a domain name (eg- Yahoo.com) and a hosting account to host your site. How much this cost you for a year? Did you guess? It cost only $68 per year!!! yes it is only $5.50 per month. Too cheap for a professional look of your site.

Buy your Domain Name: A domain is a website address which gives you the identity. You can have any domain name (as long as it is available) which suits your subject. The most generic domain is dot com. People tends to remember more dot com than others. dot net run close second. If your interest is general nature and if you want to write wide variety of topics choose your domain name general in nature. No specific product or description.(For example Info4u or your name / surname etc)

Hosting: You should have a hosting account to host your domain. Hosting is the server space you acquired by paying a fixed fee for a month. On payment of fee you are allocation a portion of space in the server. Single server will be shared for several accounts. To begin with it is enough to have a shared server space. You need a good amount of space and bandwidth and cheaper price with good support.

1and1: For domain and hosting needs I strongly recommend 1and1 account. I use for domain registration and my hostings. The domain name is priced at $6-$7 per annum and you also have private registration (private registration is where your name is withheld when you search on whois.com) This is a big advantage and you get this for free, normally everyone charge $10 p.a for private registration alone. I have not found a cheaper place than this.

They also offer a cheaper hosting package around $5 per month which more than enough for the beginners. The navigation and operation of the account is very customer friendly and you will become familiar in three or four days.

In the next post we will see the site design.
